AMD Threadripper 32 Core / 64 Thread with a 80mb Cache

Good afternoon,

I have seen this new AMD Threadripper CPU with 32 Cores and 64 Threads with a 80mb Cache. I am into Bitcoin mining with CPU based software called Crypto-Tab. I wanted to know if I'll get a high hashing rate, they said with good hardware i.e. cpu/ram and no GPU you could potentially mine 1 full Bitcoin in 30 days if you left your computer on day and night 24x7.

I've seen an Intel NUC PC with a Core i7 8550u with a Quad Core CPU with a 8MB Cache, would I get reasonable results from this? My Desktop PC has a Core i5 2400S with a 6mb Cache at 2.50 GHz and getting 200 h/s a second.

Would any body be able to provide any input to what the best solution would be for my requirements are?

If you want lots of threads, then a Threadripper would be good. If anyone has got results for a x1950 that will give you an idea what over half the performance will be.

With the AMD Processor I would think about 1300 H/s a second or potentially higher maybe even 1500 or 2000 H/s. As for the i7 NUC maybe no more than 700 H/s

No CPU will mine 1 full bitcoin in 30 days - CPUs are nowhere near powerfully enough when compared to the latest specialised ASIC miners. At best a CPU will mine "Alt-coins" e.g. Monero that they are more competitive at (or that are ASIC-resistant), and you can either manually (or some software automatically) trade for a small fraction of a bitcoin.

Crypto-Tab looks like a scam tbh - browser based mining will never be as efficient as dedicated mining software (e.g. XMRStak or similar), and likely they are skimming a huge percentage off what you actually "mine" anyway.

I have been paid by crypto-tab on several occasions.

That's what the website said some where I think, My Desktop PC is rubbish right now

I have bought a 4g LTE usb stick from China for £20.00 it has 100 Meg upload speeds and 50 Meg download speeds, do you think a UK Three sim card will be acceptable in the unit? I get 200 Meg of free data per month. Enough for messaging and emails, and the like.

I did 10 minutes of Voice over IP and only uses 1 Mega byte of data and had a long conversion with a friend.

GPU mining is still more profitable than CPU mining but you can just pair the two together into the same system.

As for the 4G stick... what does that have to do with mining :p. Might be better off asking in the mobile subforum but you will want to check what bands the 4G stick supports and if your 3 tariff allows tethering.

Not a lot, but my Phone carrier offers unlimited data for £35.00, which is expensive, but work has free internet, so if i take my mini pc into work, i might see if they can let me do it there on their wifi connection...

I was just asking if a uk sim would work in it? ive had chinese phones that work with uk sim cards

Would you think the 8mb Cache i7 8550u would be a good choice for mining as a mini PC? I know the Cache is low, but I really want something portable and light to be honest, What about a Zotac ZBOX with a i7 and a gtx 1070 with 3gb of RAM or something like this?

Its crap for mining, literally earns about 10 pence a month. The 1070 card would do better but its still going to be only a few dollars a month at current mining rates.

@Privatex86 dude you missed the mining train, it left the station quite a while ago and i doubt its ever coming back lol... even with free leccy the ROI is going to be ridiculous.
This. I get free electric and calculated my GTX 970 would pull in £37/month 6 months ago. That's 24/7 use so no gaming and constant noise. I'd literally rather do a half day's work and be done with it.

Fired up a miner for this thread, Cryptonight MSR Fast, Threadripper 1950x at the top (all core base of 3.7) and a vega below, this is at stock on both vega and 1950x, 1950x probably has around another 15 to 20% with the right tuning.

So to answer the question is TR good at mining - Hell yea it is, it's very good! Will it ever ROI? Unlikely, do not buy a £1000 cpu and expect it to ROI in any sensible timeframe.

Vince, I used Software called Crypto-tab, you can message me for a link if it's allowed. Please can you download it and check results? Cheers, What CPU do you have in general? I'm not up to date with AMD CPU's.

I have a ThreadRipper 1950x 16 core 32 thread running with a 3.7 base (3.4 stock) and boosting up to around 4.1 (4.0 stock) on 2 cores 4 threads.
