AMD THREADRIPPER VS INTEL SKYLAKE X

I'm still waiting personally as i'll make my choice once the reviews on both are out. However, on the plus side all the mono blocks should be out by then.

I like Asus, but that looks childish, overdone and tacky...... its not a good example for what you are trying to say.

Its almost as bad as the childish late 1990's early 00's GPU shrouds.

Indeed. Personally I prefer this one

No one cares about price though :D

the VROC RAID dongle is the straw that has broken the camels back for me. The Red team were wise to include that in the deal.

funny think is i don't even use raid, it has just struck a bad note.

I think I am still reeling from the coffee-lake Z270 debacle, I might skip a whole generation here until next year when the CPU market has finished shaking itself out.

If I did buy a new board it would be ASROCK, I would not touch an EVGA or ASUS board with a barge-pole, both for different reasons.

Kind of gone off Asus my self, other than their ROG line i feel the quality isn't there, MSI are still cost cutting on the quality of their components.

ASRock seem to be the new enthusiast champions by providing very good quality high functioning boards across the price range.

I still rate Gigabyte but even they have started to take more notice of their accountants and product strategists than their customer base.

You are confused, X399 does not support bootable NVME raid at all. Which is the point of VROC. RAID NVME via direct access to the CPU.

I can understand if you wanted this feature, and were required to spend a little extra for it that would be a little frustrating.
However I can't understand why your frustrated that the technology has been developed & has been made available, but your don't want it & are not charged for it, that makes no sense. Surely having options for new advanced features is only a good thing.

In historical context, the technical detail driving VROC is an irrelevance. The additional key could tear open a hole in the fabric of the space-time continuum for what its worth. If X399 can't do that either I am not fussed, at least they don't have the gall to charge you more for the key to unlock the additional RAID modes.

It is not what the key does that has been singled out for ridicule, it is what it signifies. it sets us down a path of optional extras, just like a German car.

It is a blatant up-sell on a platform that is already expensive, it is just cynical by Intel. I can't see this decision lasting another product cycle.

Now that is disgusting. I actually rather like the one SS posted. Clean lines, mute colours, sharp edges and overall rather subtle. Can't see anything particularly childish or overdone about it unlike the one here which is probably one of the most ugly, overdone plastic monstrosities.

Said it before and i'll say it again. I wish motherboard manufacturers would do cheaper versions without the bling and general pointless aesthetics but keep the functionality and component quality. Hate paying for all the crap they slap on :p

M.2 cooling is nice but I don't see why a fan is required. Surely a decent heatsink is sufficient? I'm sure that motherboard that had the M.2 slot mounted so the cards were sticking up from the board rather than laying flat had no throttling issues either so there are clearly passive solutions that work. Why would I want another small, noisy fan in my case?

Lets compare to this super sexy Prescott board. As you can see, aesthetically a lot of work was put into these boards during this period.
