Hi folks, alittle help here would be wonderful. had a little look around and couldnt quite get the answer i wanted.

im looking at moving over to an intel chip, c2d, from my old 3200 a64 (normal single core), and was wondering what cheaper c2d would be worth going for, and what current amd processor would it be comparable to ?

im an amd user since the dawn of time :) lol and will be my first time ever moving over to intel.

any info and advice much welcome ! :D

mix of everything, including some gaming , but not extreme gaming , more occasional. i have a nvidia 7900gs card at moment, which, even with my current setup (a3200, 1gig ddr1 ram), games and stuff go pretty well really, but ive not upgraded apart from gfx in over 2 years now, but i want to do it relatively cheaply. kinda <150 quid at most, hence me curious about the low end core 2 duos, and their amd counterparts, so i can get an idea how much better a cheap c2d would be.

well, just an update on things. i hung around a few weeks to see what was what,. and purchased the e2180, an asus p5e sli mobo, and 2gig of geil ram :) i think that should do me.. but i do feel like a trator by moving from years of amd over to intel :) lol

well, it was only ordered today, so maybe thursday or friday before i get it. im keeping my other stuff for the time being, and next month sometime will get the new 8800 gt card at some point :)

its not often i get a new upgrade or such for my pc, infact, last one was well over 2 years ago, so it will be much welcomed !

personally, its never bothered me where i go with hardware,. ive mostly gone with amd over the years as they have been cheaper, and in a lot of cases better for the money. this time ive not had an upgrade for over 2 years, and thought id move over to intel for a change, see how good these core 2 based cpus are. im no fanboy mind. :)

this new setup (especially when i get the vidcard too), will probly last me another 2+ years.

anyone have any review links for the e2180 ? i couldnt find anything anywhere.
