i cant keep up with the speed! its like my computer is getting outdated by the week!

Welcome to the world of ugrading, your bank balance will never be the same again.

Already pushed the missus into saying yes for my next overhaul :D. Icl a 23" Widescreen :). Only on the conditions the one I am using now gets converted into a HTPC so she can play her Farm Tycoon whatever games on the TV. :o

True. But its going to cost a complete fortune to go from Skt 939 + XP Pro to M2 and Vista.

It'd have to be either very, very quick or i'll just wait a year or two to do a complete upgrade from my kit...

but then there are still pleanty of people like me who are on an outdated system (socket 478) with AGP graphics.

a change to AM2 is looking like a good move for me - if I can wait till the summer (and I think I can) ;)

2.8Ghz P4
1024Mb RAM
6800GX

AM2 holds no interst for me TBH.Just anothe pin on a cpu and DDR 2 nothing at all to get excited about imo.

offers no performance gain over s939 and will be expensive like all new platforms are.

First cpu's on a new design are never that impressive (it seems to me)

I reckon by about december we might be getting decent performance boost from s939>>>>AM2

Thirded about the DDR2 situation!

But fair comment div0 about upgrading from an old AGP setup etc. But still, is it worth paying that premium? - Oh well, you choice :D

@ agent you aready have an opty running like an fx 62 anyway so I wouldn't worry :p

me I currently running my opty @2.6ghz on stock 1.3v same stepping as you so with more tweaking I'm not worried either. ;)

would take a massive performance boost to drag me over to M2 :p
something in which it won't be IMO

heh :)

I just think that if you can afford to wait before upgrading - then for people like me it makes sense to see what AM2 actually has to offer and then make a decision.

I'm not saying i WILL go to AM2 but I think I can hold off making a decision until there are some hard facts (benchmarks) rather than just speculation ;)
