AMD Turion X2 Dual-Core thermal paste help

Hi there,

I have an old DV5-1111ea that has a AMD Turion X2 Dual-Core Mobile Processor RM-72 2.10 GHz, Level 2 cache 1 MB in it and the person I am enquiring for has taken the heatsink unit off this and then removed some of the thermal pad.

I am going to put some new thermal paste on having cleaned the rest off properly and know not to use too much, just have a question whether I should spread it into a thin layer or allow the fan unit to push and spread it by itself.

Also, should I be doing the same process for the gpu when doing this? And they gave me some ZP Heatsink Compounds which was known as another name, would this be fine as they only use it for the net - will be adding a new fan to it also as the old one is quite loud.

OK thanks for the reply - I know how to do thermal paste however I have always spread it to cover with a rubber glove and some had just put the fan back on so was unsure.

Apparently some testing I have read on the net says that ZP which I think was called shintzu and can even be better than Arctic Cooling MX-2 so should not be an issue. Thanks.

Holy.... the laptop is seriously cool using this ZP stuff, been on for three hours now, applied it to the GPU, CPU and the AMD chip I saw which is covered by the heatsink!
