AMD Upgrade Question

Hello
I have a slight problem and was wondering if anyone could advise me on my choices.

My son's x2 3800 AMD pc has died (its my 6 year old one) i am looking to upgrade to a more modern spec for him.
The problem i am having is do I go top FM2 or lower range fx 4100 AM3+ for as cheap as possible. (his budget ) but prefer AMD.

On one hand the AM3+ seems to be the more upgradeable and future-ish proof but I am very drawn to get him a Fm2 A10-5800k based system as it would be cheaper but still powerful enough.
The main requirements are for his Skyrim game and occasional movies etc running on his 32 inch hdtv.
Graphics i will sort out as his old card is ok at the mo.

Anyone have any suggestions or ideas that will perhaps assist my decision

Thank you

You can also get an i5 (non-overclockable) for not much more.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i5-3450 3.10GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - Retail £146.99
1 x Gigabyte H61MA-D2V Intel H61 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £39.98
1 x Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (KHX1600C9D3X2K2/8GX) £35.99
Total : £234.36 (includes shipping : £9.50).

Not trying to pursuade, just offering the option. The i5 is a lot better than the 4100 and the 6100..

Have you got a budget for us to work with and a list of parts you need.

nkata's options look pretty good, The First Option has no on-board Graphics so you will need a discrete GPU, on the CPU you might even get away with an FX-4300, but for £10 more the FX-6300 is a no brainer

The FM2 Trinity option has an on-board GPU, the most powerful there is from any brand, i might add, But its still nothing flash, even given that its on-board GPU is very good, its still an on-board GPU.
So depending on what his Graphics demands are, and what discrete GPU he currently has, its something to think about, a discrete GTX 640 for example is not going to be better than the A10-5800K, not even as good probably.....

As long as his demands are not 'enthusiast' level, it can be done pretty cheap.

Thank you Nkata, Doomedspeed and Humbug for taking the time to reply and advice, it's been very helpful.

His budget is £250 max, he just needs new motherboard ,CPU and appropriate Ram . Everything else is fine (Psu is 500w corsair)
He plays Skyrim and Warcraft type games and usual YouTube, browsing etc on his HDTV @720 He has a console for gaming such as COD BF 3 .

Nkata's trinity setup looks very good and if trinty runs his games ok maybe quieter without a graphics card. The money saved could be put toward either more ram or if needed a 6670 graphics card and crossfire therefore updating the graphics as well .

I will see what he wants to do its his call.

Thank you once again
Ivan
