I have never owned or used a AMD processor nor have heard anything negative on their behalf, i had a look at their prices compared to the Intel and it a significant difference. I would just like to ask on your own prefences on both processor this sort of thread probably exist already but i though i start a new one :D

ATM intel is superior with its sandybridge. so if upgrading now that is the way to go.
Only good thing with AMD is the imenant release of bulldozer. and they are a lot cheaper

I have always gone with Intel, but am now trying to wait untill bulldozer comes out to upgrade. but it is a long wait

The question isn't "AMD vs INTEL" which is fairly pointless.

The question is, "What is your budget and purpose" and that can get you an actual answer.

Well, i just wanted to keep it simple :D and i want to hear the people opinion on the performance of the CPU of each manufactors, also their experiences with each one i know product state there spec but just wanna know how cutting it is to performace - i probally could have worded it right but i just wanted to cut to the chase with the expectation of people refeering to my question.
Let just say i am concidering to going to AMD =D on the money side

I have generally used AMD in the builds I have done over the years. I have built more than 100 machines since 1993. I have mostly not been building gaming, high performance rigs but have always looked to overclock to a reasonable level on my own builds.
I have built Intel on request but usually spec AMD on budget and general use machines. I have not found any programs that AMD can handle less well than Intel.

ive had both in the past, this time settled for AMD the price difference between it and the i7 at the time was too great to warrent the performance increase. Which meant i could spend more on the rest of the rig getting better gear.

AMD and Intel have comparable performance/price ratios on the whole, otherwise one would go out of business. However, there are certain sweet spots for different budgets, which would determine which choice is best for each situation.

I have had both and I will never have AMD again. Intel CPU's are just better or they are for me any way they just have more power in them due to higher amounts of cache yes they are more expensive than AMD but for me it is worth it.

I tend to go between the two, sometimes I have an AMD machine (have a 1090T right now) and others I have an Intel (Q6600 before). As others have said it's not a case of AMD vs INTEL but is more a case of your budget and what you are after.

To be fair any quad from either side of the fence are more than capable these days and hardware seems to be pulling further and further ahead of software. If all you do is run benchmarks then there isn't an AMD chip out there right now which will touch the sandy bridge chips. Personally I fancied a change of platform but wasn't keen on getting a first gen sandy bridge platform because of issues with sata etc so went AMD.

There isn't a game or app that I use which slows it down and it also has a fair lead over my old chip, not to mention goes to 4ghz without an issue so happy days. Mind you the Q6600 was no slouch either.

God, some people on these forums, you'd think the OP needs their permission to post a thread.....

Well, I started off with an Intel for my first three computers. Then I got into gaming and AMD was the best bet at that time, I think 1999 ? AMD at that time was sort of the new kids on the block, giving Intel a run for their money - I remember AMD with the first 1Ghz chip - . And they were cheaper !

A vast majority of gamers that I knew of, went for AMD, and AMD catered well for us. it was sort of the "Gamers Chip" cheap and overclockerable, I liked the pencil trick.

Intel had the resources and money to catch up and better AMD, although their prices are well above AMD.

Although I have a 980X, I'd still love to go back to AMD, purely for the gaming side of things, I had some many happy years with AMD chips, whilst locked away gaming :)

Intel chips = Powerful and pricey.

AMD chips = Powerful and cheap
