In my Brain...
well im looking at a new system as payday is aproaching :D
im a die hard ATI user and will never go Nvidia

im making a tough choice between a AM2 system or a C2D system as the dfi rd600 mobo is out for the C2D with no news on a am2 version im considering C2D iv allways used amd but im not a big fan on intel whats ppls experience with them both ?

B.T.W im a heavy pc gamer games like 2142 f.e.a.r css dow ect and im looking for a system to just slot a r600 into and im looking at getting 4gb of ram

well im leaning atm towards an E6600 with possibly the rd600 dfi mobo as i like it and TBH 2gb of ram isnt much anymore 4gm is avg and as 4gb will cost me about £10-15 more than the 2gb i allready have in then its not really that costly its more of an investment

and looking at just the offical stats for the r600 its gonna toast the 8800 like a fly on a bug zapper as the r600 has true dx10 cmpatibility with its unified shader prosessors where as the g80 its just emulated dx10 so untill the 8900 the r600 is the card for me

i can understand not using any particular brand to a point. i however am quite content to look at the options at the time and pick the best one. i have had ATI and Nvidia cards over the years and had no issues with either, each at the time were respectivly the most bang i could get for the buck. it does suprise me slightly how some people are obsessed with a brand and wont ditch it even if someone brings something out that stomps it to the floor. granted the new ATI chips could be incredible so id be tempted to wait before upgrading the graphics card, but what are you going to do if the ati cards turn out to be absolute stinkers? just put up with a **** card instead of looking at the problem logicaly and getting whichever card is best at that time for th emoney you have to spend?

its more than just that the reason i dont like nvidia is atm the 8800 dx10 cards dont truly do what dx10 requires needing unified shaders for the true potential of dx10 to come out and plus there 1-2 dx10 games out atm so there no point im gonna wait for r600 possibly 8900 and crytek :D

also since when was 2gb the average? 2gb might be average for anyone who has done a rebuild in the last 6-12 months but even then only the hardcore will have put 2 gb in. only now with the introduction of vista and the faster C2Ds and gpus available has 2gb become the better choice over 1gb of the past. also where can you get 4gb of memory for only 15 quid more than 2gb?

since the release of battlefield 2, as i said above im a pc gamer 2gb just doesnt cut it anymore with vista and what im aiming for

and i was comparing the price differnce to what it cost me for 2x 1gb ddr400 dual channel kits of when i brought it as its a lot cheaper now

well i was planning on waiting a couple of weeks to hold out for the ocz 4gb dual channel kit thats due out soon as that would still give me upgrade potential for the future and last me till the next major upgrade would you reccomend water cooling for a C2D ?

Looks like a good board. I haven't seen anything about the "rd600" chipset though. I'm sure it's good. I would recommend the asus though, that would be my choice.

Up to you, but 680 is the concensus on this forum at the moment.

that asus is a nice mobo and it has a 8phase digital pwm :D im hoping for a r600 to put in it soon would that board be ok for it ?
