Hello All,

Black Friday is near and I am contemplating an upgrade.

I am currently running i7 4790k @4.5ghz
RTX 2080 with Dell S2719DGF 1440p 144hz freesync screen.

I struggle to hit 120 stable fps on BF5 and considering upgrade.
The PC is used for gaming only, I do record videos as a hobby using OBS (shadowplay has too much telemetry)

I am trying to flip a coin between 3700x vs i7-9700k the issues are in each camp:
Intel is still plagued by the spectre (mine is too so hey ho) running fairly archaic architecture
AMD has very expensive x570 boards and the b550s are not out yet, the build I looked at are around 20 quid more for the AMD.

I have Noctua NH D15 which I can request an adapter for so.

My goal is high stable fps (not really interested in eye candy in games more high refresh rate.)
There is still that chance to hold on with this as it does work so so.

Memory too, as my current is ddr3, I was looking at Corsair Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 Memory
but I know ryzen likes 3600 mhz mem. So you would recommend this over intel ?

This would work fine:

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £449.93 (includes shipping: £0.00)

Obviously you could go for a more expensive X570, but it's ultimately unnecessary and the gains for doing so wont be gigantic. The main reason to really go for an X570 is if you want to pop a 12c + CPU in your rig in a year or two unless there's features you specifically need an X570 for.

You could also opt for more expensive RAM such as the following:

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £79.99 (includes shipping: £0.00)

Thats exactly what I was thinking, but I was more wondering b550 when it comes up to use the pci gen 4 for the M.2 that I will get ? not sure if its worth waiting.

It looks like they wont be out until next year at this point.

In real world performance you're not going to notice the difference between gen 3 and gen 4 to be honest.

Personally I would keep the 4790k @ 4.5ghz and wait another 12 months, still a very good cpu.
I have been contemplating this too, I just dont know how to offload the CPU in high FPS games like BF5, The upgrade itch is strong tho. If anyone has 4790k with better clock let me know what settings you got on the OC.
