AMD vs Intel. Gaming top dog?

He likes to argue a lot.
Then politely tell him to f off :P what's the point in asking a technically-minded friend for advice if you're just going to argue about it? If he knew what he was talking about then he wouldn't come asking advice to begin with. I have friends like this and they make me rage.

So, I think the general consensus is Intel 11400F and a solid B560 motherboard if you're on a budget, Ryzen 5000 for literally everything else. And as for Ryzen, if he's prepared to pay for 8 cores then 5800X is a good chunk cheaper than and superior to the 11900K. If he's prepared to pay 500 notes for a CPU then 5900X, since it's superior to the 11900K like th 5800X, but has 4 more cores. And when I say superior, the outright gaming performance may be more-or-less the same, but Ryzen 5000 draws less power, is generally cooler and the overall AM4 platform is just better.

Intel FTW (imo lol). I got sucked into all the AMD hype around the FX8350 and regretted it right away so I'm a blue/green fan boy now so I live and die by the blue/green sword whether it's right or wrong.

Stick with the FX8350 and Nvidia card until 2025. Intel will back in full force. You’ll be a team blue/blue until you die.
I ditched the FX8350 long ago. I'm 11900k/3090 at the minute and couldn't be happier with the performance tbh. Price is obviously the downside.

That's idiotic.
How so? It's just a bit of fun. It's my personal opinion and the explanation as to why I've stuck with green/blue. The only thing it's affected is my bank account and last time I checked, what comes out of there is up to me. Whether or not technically speaking my choice is the 'best performing' or 'best bang for buck' is neither here nor there, it's where I'm at and I'm happy, that's all that counts.

Its a bit of fun having a better CPU than you and having paid less for it :p

Sorry, but you get my point? Brand Loyalty costs you, not them. :)

I have no real affinity to one brand or the other, I've just stuck with green/blue because that's what's always worked well for me.

Ok fine i understand that, but i have to tell you Green/Red (actually Burnt Orange, Radeon is Red) works like a charm, its absolutely rock solid, its a monster CPU in performance terms and it dumps very little heat in to the room. my Rad is always at room temperature. :)

Fair enough, but it’s probably worth keeping in mind that Intel are massively behind AMD in every way. I literally can’t think of a single situation that I would pick Intel or Nvidia on the graphics front ,come to think of it over AMD. The 3050 could change my mind if that is PCI-E powerd and single slot.
