Why were amd's able to keep up with intel cpu's performance even though they had a lower clock cycle? I'm talking about single core CPU's only. I remeber basically it was because amd cpu's 'did more per cycle' (or something like that). Could anyone give me a more technical description. Thanks.
 
Pipeline length was a major factor,the shorter pipeline of the AMD favoured branchy type code such as games! less clock cycles required to flush the pipeline as the code changes.etc
