Hi Guys,

I am wanting yo upgrade my system, so as I am AMD fan...I am trying to choose which is better for: Gaming/Multi-Taking = Overall ?

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 6400+ Black Edition 3.20GHz (Socket AM2)

Vs

Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.40GHz (1066FSB)?

As far as I'm aware Intel outperforms AMD hands down.
That said - I'm also an AMD fan. I don't know why but there you go. Get the 6000+ and OC it; cheaper than the 6400+ Black!

The X2 is faster at stock, I would think, but there are advantages to having an Intel. You might not want to overclock now, but you might change your mind in a year. If you do, it will beat the X2. Great value imo.

Btw, you're not far off the cost of a Quad Core.

Oh, and stop being a fan of a chip company! That's geeky and sad ;) Get whats right for you.

If you really must have an AMD, you could aways hang on for thier new range of cpu's.

The x2 will murder the 6600 with both at stock speeds. Apparently c2d is about 5% faster clock for clock, so that x2 will be inbetween 6750/6850 speeds ;)

More like 15-40% depending on application. The 'original' comparison between Core2 and X2 was a 2.4Ghz Core 2 Duo, which considerably out performed a 2.8ghz X2. It averages at around 20%.

However on a 'gaming' system the GPU makes a bigger difference in gaming unless your still running in 1024x768.

That said, the 3.2Ghz X2 will outperform a 2.4Ghz C2D... But murder it.. I dont think so. 10% faster at best, excluding synthetic memory benchmarks where the X2 will really shine.

As said above, it's simple

At stock, the AMD is the faster chip. No doubt about it

If you choose to overclock than the Intel will beat it. As you've stated that you don't want to overclock then go AMD
