Need a little help on a simple question.

My current cards are 2xGTX460 SLI with the standard 2 x power connectors to each card. I think these are 4xPCIE power connectors (2 for each card)

I am swapping these out for a http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-304-SP Shapphire 7950 card and I have never owned an AMD card before.

Do the AMD 7950 cards use the same connectors. I notice it says 8-pin and 6 pin in the specifications and it has got me wondering.

Thanks

I believe they do yes and if you do not have a 8 pin power out on your psu normally an adapter is supplied with the card to make a 6pin into a 8.

As I've seen it psu's are universal so that would have to make the graphics card's also universal regarding the power plug's.

But I've never owned a nividia card so I would wait for someone with more experience to also answer.

Does your PSU have an 8 pin and a 6 pin PCIE cables? Or 2 6pins?

Not sure away from my PC for the next few days.

Perhaps we can work it out from the following

I have 4 x graphics card power connectors, all the same plugged into 2 x MSI GTX 460 cards.

There is only one type of connector on my GTX460's so hopefully that will help.

What PSU do you have,

My PSU has 2x 6 pin connectors
and 2x 6+2 pin connectors. so i can do 8 pin if i need to.

it should have 6+2 pin PCIE connectors so you will be fine. As said dont worry the 7950 will come with cables for 6 pin to 8 pin in the box.
One good thing I found with Corsair is if you have cables missing or require certain cable for your PSU and its modular they send them out free of charge.
Happened to me with the 620W.

excellent, thanks

If it's an HX 850w, it comes with 6x pcie connectors, (2x hard wired, 4x modular). All of them are 8 pin with 2 detachable pins to convert them to 6 pin.
