Advanced Micro Devices said on Thursday that it had taped out its first products, which will be made using a FinFET process technology. While AMD does not reveal which products it had taped out, it is highly-likely that one of them is a highly-anticipated microprocessor based on “Zen” micro-architecture.

“We have actually just taped-out our first couple of FinFET designs,” said Lisa Su, chief executive officer of Advanced Micro Devices, during the company’s earnings conference call with investors and financial analysts.

Either new GPU's + HBM2 or this better be a hit... or this may be the last time we can buy AMD *cries*

I really really hope they do it, but as we know you get what you pay for and....

"AMD (NASDAQ: AMD) today announced revenue for the second quarter of 2015 of $942 million, operating loss of $137 million, and net loss of $181 million, or $0.23 per share"

"Intel has revealed that its Q2 revenue approached $13.2 billion and has accumulated a net income of $2.7 billion. Revenues were in generally in line with expectations, reflecting a continued decline in PC sales, noted the company"

Hard to compete with that, but all it takes is one good product.

They can tapout all they want but has anyone taken a look at AMD motherboards recently? You might think there a fair bit behind Intel in terms of CPU power and a bit behind Nvidia in GPU's but Jesus H......their motherboard chipsets are like something from the Jurassic era. No native support for USB 3.X or PCI 3.X, any boards they do have these features are using 3rd party controllers to add-in the functionality which quite often are pretty naff.

The chipsets, for the FX series at least, are about 5 year old.

There'll be new ones for the new CPU lines.
