AMD working on improved Tahiti XTL GPU

Why didn't they just hold off on R280X launch if this is the case? this probably means that someone who buys a R280X 6mths from now will get a superior card. It's not like they couldn't have continued selling Tahiti XT2 as 7970 cards.

Had Tahiti cores left over I would guess and they have more salvaged parts from a bigger core which is fairly natural. Overall it doesn't matter, people who buy a 280x currently choose it because of what it IS not what it's missing. Effectively the 280x gets a slight boost and people after get a better card, if however they are selling "better" cards while worse versions are in stock everywhere it gets very messy. They really shouldn't brand them exactly the same, or make sure 280x stock is completely sold out first.
 
Kind of annoying for the people that buy 280's now. I guess these new ones will be cheaper to produce, so could actually be inferior to the 7970 rebrand? Lower temps is always a plus though.
