lose 2 of the sticks and use multiplier and put it at 3.2 gigs up your core v and everything should be lovely :) make sure you have a good cpu cooler though :)

Why lose 2 sticks so he is only running on 2GB? I was running on 2GB for while and i notice a considerable difference between 2GB and 4GB especially if your on Vista.

Bump up multiplyer and also maybe give the NB a few more V.

I am running 4x1GB and so far Overclcoked my E7400 to 3.8Ghz @1.31V will go for 4GHz soon.

as said up the multi until it blue screens entering windows then notch it back a little, then run a stablity program like Prime for a little while to see if its ok.

but one thing i might add is that the longer you spend tweaking (especialy AMD) the more you will get, also look out for the NB Multi and give that a nudge, this can do wonders for performance

4 sticks can, in theory, limit your overclock - although in practice it's fairly rare.

Basically when you overclock you're putting extra strain on the memory controller (usually the northbridge or built into the CPU)... in cases where the northbridge is the limit of your overclock, you will hit the limit earlier with 4 sticks of RAM. If the limit is the vCore or temperatures (ie limit of the chip or your cooling) it won't make any difference.

It's far less likely to be a problem when using a black edition (AMD) or extreme (Intel) cpu, because you're not increasing the FSB/HTT link speeds and placing far less strain on the memory controller/northbridge.

It's more a case of if you hit a limit on the northbridge, it may be worth reducing the number of sticks of RAM to see if it helps - rather than always using the minimum number of sticks.

well set multi to 15 and booted into windows . checked cpuz and still showed 2700 .

Rebooted and tried again same thing .. set to 14.5 rebooted and wouldnt load to windows (stalled on loading bar) .. set back to default and got hdd error lol

Run minipe as assumed it was a ****** mbr . No such luck mft dead and cant recover so 500gb of data gone lol.. Will try and restore it when i get a sec but have stuck a spare 200gb sata in for the moment while i get my data back .

Knew i should have left the dam thing alone lol

Sounds like it shut down at an inopportune time :-(

Strange how it booted at 3gHz and didn't show it, then crashed at 2.9 :s give it another go when you sort the hard drive, although it might need a little help with a higher voltage.

Ouch.

I've done that before, the MFT got screwed. Panicced for a while, the solved it.

You can use "GetDataBackNTFS" which will recover your files if you need them Its not free software, but it does sort out the MFT errors that TestDisc can't.

It's also one of the reasons Im going RAID1 as soon as I can on 2x1tb drives.

I have ontrack so recovering files atm . did leave it over night to do it but with a fresh install of vista the dam pc went into hybernate :( so lost a few hours .

I did have to dump windows as it locked up on the loading bar so thats what probabaly killed it . Think i will leave it standard tbh . I dont have the time to keep rebuilding the pc and the data i have is to important to keep loosing (yes i know i should back it up lol )
