AMD X2 3800 Crashing my PC

Recently purchased a new AMDX2 3800 to replace my AMD64 3000.

Never used to have any problems with the 3000, everything ran smoothly.

But when I installed the X2 3800 my PC boots up Windows,, but after about 5 mins it will freeze, reset and reboot Windows. Then I get a Windows error message saying that there could be a serious fault with my Motherboard, Power Supply, RAM or a 4th component that I can't remember.

I'm slightly worried, but this just does not occur with my old CPU.

I've checked the BIOS, temperatures, everything is fine in there.

I'm currently running the AMD64 3000 right now and have not had any glitches whatsoever.

SPEC:

ABIT Fatality SLI
AMD64 3000
4 x 512mb Crucial RAM
BFG 6800gt
Enermax 485w

Running the most recent BIOS, and Windows fully updated.

Help me out!

I got that one too!

Stable and rock solid on Single Core, but BSODs on dual.

Does this with both my NEO2 and NEO4

Both are fine with the 4400 but both crap out with the 3800.

I reinstalled XP and its better, but still no cigar.

One thing I have found, is that if I knock the RAM FSB down, it helps stability a hell of a lot.... Try that.

Also, perhaps more RAM might help?

Both the NEO's prefer 4 sticks of single sided stuff with Dual core and so maybe try different RAM perhaps, but why I have different levels of stability with the 4400 and the 3800 I dont know, unless the reason why the dual cores have dropped so much, might not be just the release of newer CPUs, but maybe because they are to put it simply a load of crap?

I beleive the x2 will need to have the RAM set on a divider to run at 333Mhz and at 2T timings to run 4 sticks, similar to the old Winchester single core CPUs. Your 3000 may have been fine at 400mhz if it was a newer venice core, and this could be why that CPU apopears fine but your x2 isnt.

Impy

I would say the same as above. Just been through the same problems with a venice core 3200 - tried to run 4 sticks of Geil dual channel, but caused system freezes etc. so i got in touch with the ABit forum. they suggested using a program called "CPU-Z" to make sure all memory timings are the same first, then they recommended that i manually reduce the DDR400 to DDR333 - and this worked a treat.

Thanks for the tips, I'll try them when I get home from work.

Incidentally, I've been reading about these hotfixes and optimiser driver things for Dual Core CPUs, do I need to install any of those?

If I do, do I install them before installing the new CPU? Since my Computer is bound to crash with the new CPU in whilst downloading the drivers.
