Am I being thick? or perhaps jus plain dense?

I can't find anywhere to buy one from?! (the 2x1mb L2 cache one....)

I'm looking for one for my MSI Neo4 Platinum....

...Thinking a perfect upgrade to the fastest (affordable) CPU the board can take, to replace my AMD Athlon Xp 3200+....

It is released in the Uk isn't it!?

If it is, any tips on where to buy from? (again, i can't see ocuk stocking it?!)

ahh i had no idea they had been discontinued... i dont keep tabs on this sort of stuff anymore.

Are the opterons better performance wise compared to how much you pay for them?

basically, would it be worth splashing out for an opteron? when i can have a much cheaper alternative upgrade which would still be far better that what i have currently?

okay, well i think i'll bite the bullet and go for a 4200+ it will still be far better performance than what i have currently.

haha i do try to be sharpish replying... perhaps too sharp!

so do the opterons (180) have the 1mb cache?

If they do, then it might be the best choice?

wow, they really are scarce aren't they? i'm looking for both the opterons and the x2's... (esp. the 2x1mb cache ones)

is there actually anywhere that stocks them?

If there isnt, am going to get a 4200+ as i need something better than my 3200+....

and fast before i lose my money to some other good cause......!

edit: Jon, i've not yet looked for prices.... okay if thats the case, i will just get s cheaper 4200+ then, save up for the next upgrade! - it will need a new mobo and everything that goes with it.... it'll b a big one...

actually, do i need to order hsf for it do you think? would it come with one?

Ahhh, its oem. i need to order one yes? - that is if the one i use currently for my 3200+ isn't good enough? Silence is a priority. then cost. but both are very important.

Well my current cpu is 939, xp's were also in 754 as well till they were made obselete... correct me if i'm wrong here.... it has been a while.

but yes more responsiveness will be greatly appreciated! i usually sit here watching tele on ma pc, and do other stuff too, some encoding too, kinda loads the cpu, so hopefully, will be verrrry happy with what it'll give me!

ok guys? i've recieved my order from ocuk today. n fitted it to my pc.

windows loaded up, installed stuff. rebooted only to freeze on the windows loading screen with the whizzy bit. it loads no further.

Booting in safe-mode works. and shows 2 cpus....

Any help here verrrry much appreciated!

i do remember updating ot with the msi program jobby.... but it was a ahile back... the bios has recognised the cpu and stuff, and also it is brought up name wise in windows as expected..... should i try updating the bios?

update: Bios has been updated manually from the download on the website.......

but the computer still does not boot normally.

well, it works if i choose last known good config.... and also in safemode too... so all hope is not yet lost!

Still trying things

as i'm sure you can appreciate, i'd really like to try n not fresh install!

somehow.. lots of last known config booting, n fiddlin, its working!! perfectly!

Miracle?! i don't know!
