AMD X2 5200

Yeah the 5200+ is on AM2, so you need at least a AM2 upgrade board for your Asrock and DDR2 RAM to work it, so defo not worth it. Your X2 4400+ is a good chip so hold onto that; it should oc to 2.6Ghz without too much effort.

Was toying with buying this processor as I've seen it under £200, any thoughts on how it will perform?

indeedy, your current system is fine, do you know what stepping your current CPU is ? on your board if its the right stepping and you have the right cooling you should be able to clock to near 3Ghz per core. i have the same board by the way running an opteron 170 @ 2.6Ghz per core, havent had a chance to push it yet as i only installed it yesterday :)

Hi, guy's, yes I know the 5200 is AM2, needing a new m/b and RAM, was thinking of a complete upgrade as I need Crossfire m/b now and it's a good opportunity to upgrade cpu as well.
Conroe time ?
I do have the stepping writen down somewhere but I'm sure it's the "bad" one, I did raise the FSB a bit, got it to 2.38 and didn't want any more, but not too sure about adjusting memory timings!

If you can afford AM2 X2 5200+ upgrades then you can definitely afford C2D.

If you want crossfire you can go for E6600 + ASUS P5W DH + PC6400 RAM of your choice.

that's pretty much a winning combination, though I went for the intel bad axe 2.. Personally I think it's an under-rated board here on OcUK.. Rock solid stable. Sure the Asus is fine.. I see OcUk now beginning to stock TEAM RAM! That's the PC6400 of your choice covered ;)

Thanks guys going to do some pricing.
So Core 2 over the 5200 then?

Deffinetly yes. The Core 2 CPU's are better than the current AMD X2's in almost every way.
