Will this CPU be fine for rts, mmorpg games like starcraft 2 ,star trek online etc. From what i have read it seems a good value CPU. If i pair it with a gtx 460 will i have a decent set up for gaming. I am looking at a build with these components for about £550 so obviousley it wont have 'amazing' performace but i am hoping it will be half decent.

It will do just fine for current games. I don't know if you are planning to overclock it but it's stock performance will be good for the price.

except for bfbc2 i had a 555be and it stuttered like hell with my 5850, the difference when unlocked to x4 was amazing, funny enough when I ramped the aa and detail upto max it smoothed out, maybe it was just my setup?

I am pretty shure my CPU will be the 550 and not the 550 BE. I have tried googling about unlocking and overclocking the non BE version but cant really get any answers.
If i want to in the future will it be possible to do anything to this non BE version?

How come you have decided against the BE?
And i am almost certain you can do it to the non BE just by setting the ACC to auto
If i were you i would go for the BE straight off thats what i have :)

I didnt choose not to have the BE. Its just the system i have bought comes with the 550 and does not state that it is the BE so i am presuming it wont be when it arrives.
I just wanted a cheap system that i could play WoW and Starcraft on. I upgraded the GPU to a gtx 460.
If i need more CPU power in the future i can always pick up a more powerfull AMD chip but i think the 550 will be adequate. I was just checking if it was possible to tinker with it if i wanted to have a go.:)

Ohh right, that makes sense now :D, apart from the unlocked multiplier it *should be identical, so have the same unlocking capabilities etc.

I got the 550 BE, sadly mine didnt unlock.

I bought it because I thought if it does unlock then I got a quad core for half the price, but even if it doesnt unlock, I still have one of the best dual core processors for the great price :)

All the 550's are black editions :) unlocking it will be easy, just set acc to auto in The bios if your mobo supports it and see if it works :)

when you say easy im guessing you mean its easy to do on a motherboard that supports it?

I went through 4 550's and 3 555's before i got a successful unlocker :p

AMD 785G chipset is good to unlock :D

Sorry yes, I should have been more specific, I mean't to unlock a chip with a mobo which has acc lol. Finding a good clocking unlockable chip is a different matter :D
