Bit of a straight forward question really, what does everyone prefer to use in HTPC for:

Media Storage/Playing
DVD Player
Dual Freeview tuner etc

Aim for low power consumption in an HTPC since that means less heat, less money to run it, and most importantly fewer fans, moving parts, and noise necessary to cool it.

Look at the AMD X2 3800 EE. It runs at just 35 W. In some cases you can run passive cooling without a problem. 780G mobos like the one above perform excellent hardware decoding of popular video codecs which means that the CPU is relatively unloaded, even when playing 1080p H.264-encoded content.

What chip is this? i cant seem to find it on the OcUK shop

If i dont go for that 35mw chip, whats the next best AMD chip to get keeping into concideration power consumption/heat.

these 45w chips are pretty good if you cant find the 35w one

AMD Athlon X2 BE-2400 (45W)
AMD Athlon X2 BE-2350 (45W)
