Hi all

I am wondering (hoping) if anybody is asking themselves the same question.

Reviews of the 8350 seemed to start off quite negative but they have improved over the past couple of months.

So I am just looking for opinions... Would you go for a 8350 now or wait to see what Steamroller is like?

Thank you

AD

if your board supports it, go for a FX8350, you wont regret it.

I just went from a 1100t to an 8350, and I am very happy I did, then sell your 965BE they still go for £60 those chips as they are usualy good clockers,

when steamroller comes out, then sell the 8350.

ive got a Asus M5A97 LE R2.0 mobo .. which the site says supports an fx8350 .. so its well worth going from a 965be ? 1080p max res

Yes, but your not going to get massive overclocks on the FX-83## with that motherboard, you might get 4.5Ghz safely.

well im doing 4ghz on my 965be with an oc and that cpu does that as standard ... should be able to pull 4.5 surely at the least ??

might wait abit tho as its £35 more now than in january

I have the M5A99X EVO, the chip sits a treat in that, and dare I ask what a 'massive overclock' is on this board if not 4.5 gig, which I was thinking is a respectable OC on air.

AMD where full of hot air, saying 5 gig was easy on air, I think the last few months have proven this untrue, with 4.7 @ 1.45v being the 'sweet spot' for 24/7 clocks.

as for price, wait till it goes o the £149.99 deal here again, and grab it

4.5GHZ is only a 12.5% OC, percentage wise, getting a Phenom II X4 940 from 3GHZ to 3.4GHZ is a bigger accomplishment percentage wise.

So I wouldn't call it a massive overclock.

It's respectable, that's for sure, 500MHZ extra isn't to be sniffed at.

It is £149 ;)

as stated above go for it mate im running Bulldozer from a 1090t and i noticed a difference in performance so piledriver going to be even better o currently have mine clocked at 4.2ghz on air with no Volt tweaks and memory running @1600 1.575v

If you change to Intel then you will need a new MOBO and CPU and In my case a new version of windows. In some of the new games e.g. Crysis 3, far cry 3 and BF3 it is just as good

To the OP,an overclocked FX8320 would be a decent upgrade,as you won't be limited by the motherboard when overclocking. The Phenom II X4 still has some value,so I would ditch it,and the FX8320 should be a useful upgrade with modern games, and will be a relatively cheap one at that too.
