Hi,

I am currently building a gaming PC based around the AMD 1090t.

I was reading a few things online and I had a thought come to me. is it really worth getting the X6 for gaming and slight graphic stuff?

I will have 8GB Ram, undecided on GPU and running a Formula 890fx Mobo.

Im not sure whether the six cores will be fully utilised and wehther it would be worth the 3.6ghz x4 edition clocked to about 4.00Ghz and presumably this would more stable than running a 3.2Ghz x6 at 4.00Ghz?

Any opinions?

Thanks

as an AMD user i will tell you there are precisely 0 reasons to go with AMD right now (there might be when bulldozer is finally benchedmarked, but woud you be willing to gamble ~£300 on it being better than sandybridge). with intel sandybridge you will get better performance, better SSD utilisation (intel smartcache) and lower power consumption (lucid virtu)

Hmmm,, may of changed my mind then!!! What sort of motherboard would you suggest? As i say I was going to the asus formula 890fx which was around £130 with no onboard graphics, what would you suggest?

Thanks

i5K is usually spec'd for gaming rigs. The "K" is essentially intels equivalent of the AMD black edition i.e an unlocked CPU for overclocking.

BF3 WILL be using hyperthreading which is a feature of the i7. Of course we don't know yet wether it's going to make enough difference to warrant the extra cost of the i7. Although the BF3 beta is due very soon maybe it will shed some light but the whole "i5 beacuse games wont support hyperthreading" argument doesn't fly anymore.

Good luck with the build, any problems or questions you know where we are.
