Hi,

I have 2 old AMD XP 2000 LOL pc's in the other 2 rooms for the others to use just for the net, which works a treat.
anyhow, i desided to clean the dust out of them and re-do the paste on the cpu's. i cleaned it with brandy like i always use. I and tried both silver 5 and TX-2. they power up ok, but won't boot up :( anyone got any ideas to why ?
i built few pc's in my time, but now i'm frastrated

Cheers :)

Methinks your CPU's were teetotallers and now you've broken them :p

Give them a good hairdryer blast, heat them up - dry anything off them, but you might be out of luck - they may not work again.

I have an old spare XP1800 I could dig up if needs be....

So you think the brandy has messed them up then ? I'll try the hairdryer ;)

Yep the chips were buggerd. got 2nd hand one, and works. but now and again the pc restarts lol sods law. :D

Curious your chips should stop working after a stiff drink :)
One thing comes to mind, have the chips at anytime been modified ?

Athlon XP's could be modded by cutting and joining of pads on the top of the chip.
A rub with the Brandy could have removed the traces made with a conductive pen.
