like xvids / divx / DVDs, probably not HD content i assume?

xp 2600 is a 2.13Ghz (333/266) processor

i can add a decent agp graphics card although it comes with a ati 9600 series

oh and i plan to use win xp with it

sorry im a bit out of track with the retro gear ;)

many thanks :)

I sold an Athlon XP 1700+ a few months back at auction for £17 and bought an Athlon64 3200+ for £21. I also sold off a few bits of random tat (old stock HSF, mobo manuals, etc) and then bought an ASUS A8N-E for £25 also a Geforce 256MB 6600LE PCI-Express (passive) for £25.
Added the bits of DDR ram and stuff I had spare (as u do!) and got a sweet little networked media PC for virtually no cost.

But in answer to your question I do think what u have will be ok except the high def stuff (as already mentioned).

You will be fine.

My MCE uses a Sempron 2600 i believe. Maybe 2800, but clock speed will be lower than yours. Also, recently upgraded my MCE to Vista Home Premium, no problems at all.

No idea with HDTV.

used to have a 2600+ (by way some are 1.83ghz) only time i noticed an issue was with high deffination .mov files on quicktime. they would play fine but you would notice stutters and elays soemtimes if youtried to adjust settings while its playing or move the window. part from that it would play em fine if you left em alone.

You won't have any problem with media playback, even with HD stuff. You MIGHT get some stuttering if you're doing more than one thing at a time, eg. recording video to HDD, burning a DVD and playing a recorded video all at once.
