Looks like AMD are readying a Zen 2 (Matisse) refresh for release July 7th. *Now available*

These new parts will be clocked slightly higher due to a more refined and matured 7nm process.

3800XT - 3.9Ghz base / 4.7Ghz boost (+200)

Wasn't really expecting this from AMD to be honest.
But it's a nice little bonus for people planning a budget B550 build over next few months before Zen3 lands.

These will just be higher binned chips with increased base and boost clocks.
They have no reflection on Zen 3 which like Panos says above is a different architecture / product.

But there has been some question over what 'enhanced overclock support' technically means.

• Does it mean the Infinity Fabric clock will be able to be pushed a little higher at 1:1?
• Or is it just another referral to the higher base and boost clocks for this refresh?

This same guy also did another interesting video demonstrating how poorly Zen 2 scales with frequency with an 5Ghz comparison.

Memory latency definitely needs to improve, and hopefully it will do with Zen 3.

Waiting for comprehensive benchmarks.

Frequency scalling alone would not appear to offer much uplift as that's not really the bottleneck.
We need to see how far the infinity fabric will go in sync on these XTs.

The 3800XT is the only worthwhile one, which also happens to be the worst value Zen 2 CPU out of the product stack price wise.

All in all this refresh is a bit of a bust chaps.

No base clock increases, just disappointing.
AMD really should have not bothered if the truth be told.

Oh well Zen 3 isn't far off.

As expected disappointing as they don't really offer any real meaningful uplift over the older X range.

Slightly better top end manual OCs, but Zen 2 does not really scale that well with frequency anyway so the gains are marginal at best.

Conclusion - wait for Zen 3 or buy the older SKUs at a lower price point if you cannot wait.
