AMD Zen 5 rumours

Do you think it's worth getting 8000 speed memory with an X870 board, I know it's still hit and miss but do you think this will improve with bios updates

Or is it just better to stick with a lower speed of memory

From what I’ve read, many boards won’t support those speeds.

Even when they do, it might only make a minor difference to 1% lows in gaming…

… a difference that is further eradicated by an X3D chip…

… and gaming at 4K.

You can get 6000 CL28 kits that are relatively inexpensive. Will a 8000+ CL38 kit give better FPS / be better value? Not sure.

My take is to go 6000 CL28 for now, maybe I’ll flirt with a higher speed kit later once compatibility has been ironed out with BIOS updates.

A little way off before I move to a completely new system, but going by a quick check in HUB's video, the Gigabyte Elite (I think it was called) looks to be among the better 'value' motherboards and has good performance results.

It's funny, each time I go to spec a new board, I intend to opt for something different for a change, as it seems I end up with a Gigabyte product every time since, IIRC, 2008. The experience has been good for me with regard to their products, but it would be nice to try something else, e.g. an Asrock board.

I've done a bit more testing over the weekend, mainly working on the RAM side of things. I still need to fine tune the CO / CS rather than just using a -30 / - 5 offset and the 8200C34 profile is nearly done and ill post a full UEFI setup once this has been completed.

Cannot go higher?

It can, as I have 8200 working at the moment with no real issues. I thought it would be good to post an 8000 example with a bit more detail than what HUB did.

8400 is a bit more of an faf but not looked at that in any great detail
 
So what do we reckon for the 9800x3d, 400,450 or 500 , right now I can get a 7800x3d and a x670e board for 550, if the 9800x3d hits 450 or higher and has only a 10% at best performance hike, I’m looking at 20% etxtra at least for ten per cent performance uplift I’m unlikely to ever see (game at uw 1440p 165mhz with a 7900xtx)

I am all for buying new tech but unless it’s 400 I am struggling with the value proposition.

Am I missing anything?

I think HUB maxed out at 8300 on the same board, so sounds about right
