AMD Zen 5 rumours

i think at stock, the 9800x3d will only be 5-15% faster than the 7800x3d

my reasoning for this speculation is:
going from a 5800x to a 7700x is a 15% performance bump
going from a 5800x3d to a 7800x3d is a 20% performance bump (+5% on top of vanilla)

so, if the performance uplift of a 7700x to a 9700x is only 5%, then i would assume a 10% increase (5% + 5% for the x3d portion)
the only way i can see this improving is if zen 5 is much more efficient than zen 4 and allows the 9800x3d to keep the boost clocks higher and for longer, given that the x3d sits in between the cpu and the heat spreader

putting this out here so i can either be proven right or be laughed at when next month comes round

"oh look, the 9800X3D is only £50 more than the 7800X3D"

£440 > £490

instead of mere weeks ago where it would be £315 > £4xx

Looks fake to me with cinebench showing the base clock at 4.07ghz for the 9800X3D which is a lower base clock than the 7800X3D.

Infact its probably just a 9700X ES, the 9700X which has a base clock of 3800mhz due to the low 65w TDP so 3800 + 200 Fmax so 40x101.75 BCLK = 4070 which lines up perfectly with the 4.07 in cinebench.

I am still on Zen 2 and have been waiting for this to upgrade. Should be well worth it!

Even if it isn't much of a jump over the 7800X3D, I expect it'll give me a pretty solid jump from a 3900X.
Same here, still on a 3900X. So, if I do elect to jump to one of the more recent Zen chips, then this is one that might tempt me.

Will be picking up one but struggling to decide on a board, especially when gigabyte is throwing around big performance claims. It’s between the Strix and Aorus Master for me

I’m sure all board manufacturers will have their own version of what gigabyte claim to be offering…

My Asus B650E-E Rog Strix which can be considered an old board now already has a special section in bios for AI performance boost solely with X3d chips.

I don't have an x3d chip to test but someone on here can probably test performance difference with it turned on or off, but I suspect its all BS.

Was going to say what a nothing burger of an article but "2nd gen vcache" is intriguing. Any rumours as to how it could be different enough to earn that phrasing?

Edit after googling:

Plus the positioning of the TSVs within the L3 cache might stress out the CCD itself so it is speculated that AMD might go for a 2-Hi stacked 3D V-Cache design to counter the impacts.

Double stacked would surely mean more heat, couple with higher clocks I look forward to seeing how they handle that.
