AMD Zen 5 rumours

That actually isn't relevant, people feel better about dual 3D CCD's and be that as it may its only for AMD to satisfy that market.

And you know the cost difference for them to produce single x3d to having dual x3d ? And when it doesn't do anything for gaming because of cross ccd latency

I think when games start benefiting using more than 8 cores we'll have ccd that probably has 12 or 16 cores ?

As far as I recall, AMD engineers in talk to GN confirmed only 1 CCD having cache is exactly because adding cache to second CCD doesn't increase performance at all - didn't with 7k series and doesn't with 9k series, as games do not use that and productivity doesn't use it either. It would be increasing cost for no benefit to the end user at all, whilst limiting productivity performance in 7k series (not so much in 9k series but also no benefit at all). Sometimes people ask for something they can't get, because that is not how things actually work.

Have to say, I'm very happy with my 9950X, though I was coming from such a low base anything would have seemed fast.
Image manipulation and Blender are crazy fast now, Ryzen 9 has impressed me so far.
I really notice the difference on the storage front as well, SATA to NVMe is one hell of a jump.
I treated myself to a pair of Q acoustics M20 bookshelf speakers last week as there was a good BF deal.
Finally got around to sorting out my NAS as well, added an additional 5 x 6TB WD Reds and went from RAID5 + JBOD to RAID 6 across all 8 drives.
I think Im done now, well and truly..

(apart from a 10GB ethernet switch)
(Oh, and a UPS for my NAS)
:D

I'm really hoping the 9900x3d is at least as good at gaming as the 9800x3d whilst also being better for video and similar.
I have only just started looking at x3d versions and the 7000 series don't seem to fair well seems to be because of the cache only being on one of the chiplets or something.

9700x in recent benchmarks seems to be doing better and better (with bios updates and decent memory) at 0.1% and 1% lows for gaming - something normally more the advantage of the x3D chips

any ideas why ?

in particular in games like ACC, Starfield, Cyberpunk

Think most that buy a 16 core care about performance/price more than anything else and the none 3d Zen 4 was faster and less hassle. Zen 5 bring the frequency closer and if both CCD's are the same, it should not need the game bar rubbish. Will be interesting to find out how the 16 core 3D does in none gaming workloads.

This +1 as I looked into this a lot before deciding on the 9950X. Whilst I do game a lot, it is mostly either switch or Steam deck with the odd strategy game on the PC. When I looked at the benchmarks, the 3D variants made no sense for my use case. The only production benchmark where the 3D variant was equal or better than the non 3D variant was Photoshop which I don't use.
For me, non 3D was the way to go as there were significant speed advantages for my use cases and what I wanted the PC for.

Whereas I’m happy to compromise a little non-gaming performance for better FPS, but still want the 16 cores for everything else.

Hope the 9950X3D releases before the 5090FE so that I can get my new PC built sooner rather than later.

Ahh, the FPS days are long gone for me now. Im pretty happy with 60fps now, maybe one day I will treat myself to a gaming monitor and see what all the fuss is about...
I know my reactions have slowed, Im not sure I want the extra fps to highlight just how much!

I think the extra frames may help compensate. They certainly do for me, less frame time equals more time for slow hands and eyes. I joined a warzone match with my 15 year old son and his buddies the other day. My god they are like a different breed. I was happy with my 2 kills whilst they racked up 10s and left me camping in a toilet.
