AMD Zen 5 rumours

With one VCache CCD and one standard CCD on the 9950x3d I'd suggest the 9800x3d would be better for gaming unless you turn off the non-VCache CCD if just to avoid cross CCD issues.

For productivity there is now less of a downside to VCache, so it's no longer a compromise against both the 9800X3D and the 9950X, so it's the 9950X that makes little sense unless it's significantly cheaper.

Me too. My new PC build is waiting on reviews of these new processors.
I just hope its not a let down, but based on even the charts AMD provided it doesnt look like its gonna be a big leap from the standard 9900x, 9800x3d or even the previous gen X3D chips

Just waiting for 9950X3D availability now before I can crack on with my next build.

Hurry up AMD, my kids want my current PC as a hand me down!

Not sure the 9900X3D will be that great TBH as isn’t it a 12 core chip over two 6 core CCD’s?

At least the 9800X3D and the 9950X3D both have 8 cores with the Vcache.

I don't understand why the 9950x3d will only be 1% better than the 9800x3d, when it has +500mhz, +50watts and +40mb more cache. Yes I know about inter CCD latency and the 3d cache only being on one CCD, but I expected more than 1% increased gaming performance

Id be surprised if 1% faster in games than 9800x3d

Id half believe if was compared to 7800x3d

Yes but even if you parked the non x3d CCD on the 9950x3d, essentially making it an 8 core CPU, surely perfomance should be greater than 1% no?

Also someone has compared AMD's slides from yesterday showing much worse performance

I said all this yesterday when the averages work out the 9950x3D is not any faster. In terms of the significant slower side numbers, maybe slightly different game settings as they seem like outliers compared to others or games been patched since the previous numbers of the 9800x3D and has impact but 9% to -8% I would expect to be typical.

There clearly still issues that cause resources to be utilised when not a pure 8 core etc. Be that skething windows still trying to read parked cores or something.

Has it been said that the 9950x3d will still need Xbox game bar to run optimally, like the 7950x3d? I’m wondering if there is any difference in core parking at all.

Game Bar comes pre-installed with W11. All you have to do is install the chipset drivers to get the CPU to run normally, which you'd have to do anyway.

I was really hoping the 9950X3D would launch this month and that it would perform in games the same as the 9800X3D.
I made a massive mistake buying a 9950X on launch for full MSRP when it has dropped £70 and sure eBay prices are around £150 less than I paid.

So unless this chip benchmarks well, I simply won't upgrade to it - Personally really gutted as the 9950X IMO isn't a great chip and need to park cores for it to work properly in games.
My move from Intel to AMD has not been a pleasant experience.
