Afternoon all,

I'm sitting here bored in work (no one should have to work on bank holidays!! grr), and thinking about spending some cash.
My PC is starting to lag a little when it comes to the latest games, so considering what to upgrade. Thinking there is no point getting a new graphics just yet since 1, I'll have to get a PCI express mb as well as the card, and 2, directX10 cards will be coming out in the near furture.

So that leaves me with a new CPU really. Would going from a 3500 newcastle to a 64 X2 Dual Core 3800 or 4200 be worth it?

It really depends on what you use your PC for, if it was purely gaming, I personally wouldnt recommend it based on my experience (went from 4400+ -> single core opty). Some people havent had major problems gaming though. However, anything else and you should go for it. Get the X2 3800+ though, only 200 quid and clocks very well apparently.

i went from the same chip as you to a x2 3800 and i aint looked back.

i have overclocked mine to 2.5ghz and that seems to be the norm with these cpu's and my gaming hasn't suffered in the slightest.

im also very happy that i haven't see the windows timer in ages as i did with the 3500.

If you are going to buy a single core cpu get the 3700 with the 1mb cache not the 3800. I have a 3500 Winnie and am in same position as what cpu to go for, i think i will wait and see how much the 3Ghz Opterons are !!!!!

Well I went for the x2 3800. And oh my :) getting 15 fps more in oblivion. And not even started to OC it yet.
