Currently have the system in my sig and was wondering what to upgrade to... Have the money for a Intel Dual Core, but what with Vista and DX10 cards was wondering is it better to hold off upgrading cpu/mobo/ram till vista and dx10 cards come out and just upgrade the 3700+ for a faster socket 939 cpu? If so, whats a good upgrade that'll last me 6 months till vista + dx10 comes out, then i'll decide on a cpu/mobo/ram combo...

Any help appreciated... Oh BTW, i mostly play games, but also do some video encoding (nero recode, *cough* *cough*)... ;)

Hehe... Thats what i was thinking, but i see everyone jumping on the upgrade boat... And i don't want to sink without a paddle... Guess my old 3700+ still has some life left in it, it's @ 2.60ghz, just need to last another 6 months till i decide Core 2 Duo or better... So i guess other ppl would agree? Don't do a full system upgrade yet from my 3700+?

i have a very similar system but with a 3200 winchester at 2.6 too....

its been fine for me and see no reason to upgrade, but ive gone and bought a 2nd hand x2 3800 anyway, to get a dual core boost, which should see me fine for a bit yet

Hey Legless, Im doing a core 2 duo upgrade from a 754 socket single core 3400+ running just at stock. Lookin at benches id say it will be worth it for me, justified by how much I multi task which havin a dual core will help. Also my current CPU is bottlenecking my x1800XT, also all these ties nicely in with Flight Sim X being released in Oct. I only have 1GB of ram which is not brill in 2days terms which is another bonus for me.. so an excuse there for me to upgrade the mem.

The main thing that gave me the green light though is these CPUs are so cheap, when you look bk at what we got for our money a few yrs ago its funny. I wouldnt be doing this upgrade if the CPU was pricey.

Guess the question is do u feel like u need more power? Is there anything you do where ** noticing signs of sluggishness? :)

I want to upgrade, but wondering if its worth it on a 3700+ @ 2.6ghz for games... When Vista + DX10 is out, i can save some cash and get a kick ass pc... But i wanna have a good pc for the next 6 months... :D

I upgraded from a 3700+ to a 4400x2 once conroe came out because of the price drops

I did the same and i'm very happy with it :).

Fingers crossed it will keep me going until conroe is a little more mature :).

Same boat here, have the rig in my sig and fancy a 4800+, but do wonder if its worth waiting, only prob is that i like my DFI too much now.

Surely DX10 cards will run on my system or am i missing a big something ?

The thing that really grabs me towards the 4800+ is the video render, the app that i use supports dual cores, so should be quite nice to have them render in an evening rather than 20hrs for hd video

I had almost an identice rig as yourself before going with the X2 4800+ I only did this because I want to keep this rig and will transfer to my offive, but I have been pleasantly suprised, It wont clock as high as my 3700+ SD used to but I cannot tell the difference in the real world.

What I have found is that I multitask more now becase I CAN. The only reason I did not before is because of the ridiculous hour glass and slow downs.

In other words if you don't want to go the whole hog with mem, chip and MB replace then frankly you will be suprised, I certainly am, and I used to say its a waste of money. Hey ho.
