I have a Packard bell (2003 model) istart 2390 with an AMD64 Athlon (3800+ ?) processor, I have just ordered 4x1gb of appropriate ram, but understand I may only achieve up to 3.5 gb speed as it is running 32bit vista.... will the processor be able to handle 64bit win7 if I do a clean install.....if so is this a sensible option...thanks

It can handle it, but for the extra 500mb it's really not worth it in my opinion. Most programs aren't native to 64-bit anyway (possible compatibility issues), and with only 4Gb of ram the more sensible option would be to stick with 32-bit win7. :)

I have an Athlon 64 3800+ myself OC to 2.8GHZ (from 2.4GHZ)
I have only 2 GB of RAM 4 x 512 pc3200.
It's running Win7 64bit quite comfortably, though I only use it for browsing, playing youtube vids etc.
