AMD64 overheating or is my motherboard crazy?

Hey all, I've got a K8 Neo2 Platinum and a 3000+ AMD64

I've just finished off my water cooling setup and was putting the system back together, I had a few issues which I won't go into, but they involve bent pins and all sorts of other joys.

Now I've finally got my system to past post, for a while it was hanging at verifying DMI Pool, but poking a few settings in the bios (pretty much at random) seemed to get rid of that.

So all fine and good... then suddenly mid windows install the machine powered itself down.

Tried a few other things and even got a live linux distro running for a good few minutes... ok so I tried to install Linux, just incase my windows image was corrupt

got a fair way into the install and.... boom box went off.

I sat and watched the heatsensor in the bios for a bit after this, and it started off at about 43c and slowly every second climbed a degree untill it hit 85 and the machine powered down.

So I thought I'd verify this with a heatsensor I have. removed the waterblock (and boom the blinking amd64 came with it...) stuck in a heat sensor, and fairly lightly clamped the whole thing back together (yes with the 2nd hand thermal paste...) the heatsensor was reading 57c (still hot, but hey) at the same time my motherboard was reading 85c.

Now for my question.... is it likely my processor is overheating or is it the bios going nuts?

Edit: After screwing on the water block frightningly tightly the temp raise is still ocurring but a lot more slowly, guess I just need to clean it thourhgly and re-apply some thermal paste! :/
