Hi I made a post Here and was told to ask for your knowledge on this one.

I'm having some issues powering two 2560 X 1080 monitors with a single 7970 DCUii even though the GPU has two Dual Link DVI outputs it'll only power one of them, They are both going directly over DVI outputs with no adapters.

Do you have any ideas to bring to the table and help a brother out would be much appreciated?

Many thanks,
Jay

Tried a different cable?

Both cables work but only on the second DVI output not the first one it seems.

Are both dual link dvi? Looking at the spec sheet it appears at least one of those dvi ports are single link, which iirc caps out at 1080 60hz.

Use one of the display port connectors instead?

Edit: perhaps I'm wrong, it reverts to single link if the dp port below is populated: http://dlcdnwebsite.asus.com/existone/websites/global/products/0MltKGsARClFuQZQ/ioports2.jpg

Yeah I've tried with the switch but it then doesn't give any image on either DVI outputs.

I would try Display port to Dual Link DVI but I couldn't find any in town today. Went to three stores and they didn't have them only had single links.

Do the monitors not have dp inputs? Given how new to market they are I would have thought most if not all 21:9 monitors have dp?

Nope, They are imported over from Korea so they only do DVI :( Not sure If a DP adapter would even work tbh.

Judging from this picture, have you tried switching the switch and see if that works?

If that doesn't work then you will need an active DP to dual link DVI adapter, it looks like Asus has wired up all the display ports a bit weird.

Yeah I gave the switch a go and it just made it so it couldn't power any of the monitors instead of just the one. I'll see if I can get a DP to dual link DVI adapter. OCUK sell them?

Edit: Found one I just hope it works :S

In an attempt to see if I could change the starting rez on one of the Crossover monitors see if I can get it working on the second Dual Link DVI I noticed something extremely odd.

For some bizarre reason CRU can see my old Dell monitor even though I've not had it connected to my PC sinse I got my first Crossover back in December. This is the first time using this tool. I'm stumped as to why it's picking up a monitor I've not used for the better part of almost 3 whole months now.

Has anyone out there used CRU before and could explain what's happening here? How can it see a Dell monitor I no longer use?

That's a passive adapter but it should work, seeing as you're only using two DVI displays in total.

EDIT: Just noticed your new post, you can see that it's not active, but it does remember the display. Not used CRU before so not sure how it works...

Crap! It said active so just impulse bought the thing, Are active powered with USB?

Yeah it's not active Just very odd that it still can detect it somehow :|

The Dell driver is still present and windows loads it as a non-loaded device/driver and has only hidden the device/driver although it's still there.

CRU is reading 'any' monitor driver that's been installed in your system as CRU is doing a EDID override(spoofs your monitor driver) in order to create custom resolutions?

If you go to Windows Device Manager and can't find the Dell monitor you can try and enable hidden devices in device manager by opening cmd(as admin) and type the following:

The 'devmgmt.msc' command will open an elevated Windows Device Manager-

In the Device Manager console, from the 'View' menu, select 'Show Hidden Devices', you can remove it -but you would have to install the monitor .inf file again if you use the Dell monitor.

Cool cheers dude, I'll have a crack at it tomorrow. I just hope this DP to Dual Link DIV works because it's not a USB powered one apparently even though it says it's active :S

I used to have this card.

only one DVI is DL the second is single link.

You need to use One DVI and 2 Display ports for eyefinity.

You need to switch the switch to enable this.

You will need Two DP to DVI active adapters which are powered by USB.

Apple sell the best ones, but they are expensive.
Bizlink also sell a version which I used but they all seemed to die within a few months.

when I had them a non powered active cable was being sold but in fact it was a load of tosh and didn't work, no idea if this has changed as I bought a 7990 as I got fed up of the 7970.

oh and not to mention that 3 of the DCII cards I had showed green artifacts on the second display port.

They are just terrible cards, sell up and get a 290 mate

See this is why i'm conffused because the are both the same it seems.

Image of the ports look the same :|

Also how come i'll need two DP to DVI? Are you saying I can't go 1 Dual link DVI and the second over DP?

Try using the amd pixel clock patcher.
It should allow higher refresh or resolution over single link so, might be enough to sort out your problem

I've been looking into this and thinking about giving it a go. But if it is down to the GPU being ****** I'll RMA and get ocuk credit and go with a 290 that has true dual link DVI outputs.

Honestly I feel it's more of Asus at fault than AMD, the way they wired all the display ports and then a switch to enable/disable some seems a bit strange.

Indeed it's odd at first I thought it was a BIOS switch for overclocking seeing as they have given customers the ability to hardwire the GPU to selected mobo's for maximum overclocking.

Thanks for your help everyone, I picked up the cable from the post office today because I missed the postman the other day. Everything seems to be working as intended it seems.
