Hello,

My name is merlin and I hate Amercian cars.

Looking for other like minded individuals.

Thanks.

Agree mostly. Their mass market cars are poor versus Euro products, even now. Interiors also no matter what car or trim level feel like they come out of a GMC half-ton.

Good American Cars:

Hummer H1
Corvair
Corvette

Bad:

The rest.

The Americans forgot how to make good cars.

There's the odd exception, but 99% are utter tripe.

Whilst that does indeed fail, lots of european cars also suck.

I like quite a lot of the classic american stuff and a handfull of the latest cars.

Yes but BMW, Mercedes, Lotus, Ferrari, Lambourghini etc balance all that out. Even the products from Ford of Europe are highly superior to their American counterparts.

Europe can make a fine turd too

I don't know much about American cars, but I'm currently watching the Overhaulin' series and the end products look pretty damned awesome.

My name is eidolon and I hate American cars. WLTM other individuals who don't understand how a 24.6l V8 engine can produce 6BHP.

I do concede that they certainly know how to restore a car and they are streets ahead when it comes to hot-rods, restorations and the like but the bread and butter is plain poor.

So thats the car ford nicked the fiesta light design from!

The Lancia Y came out after the MK4 :p Both cars do look very unhappy.

Because the driving conditions in the USA are very different to the UK, miles between services is far more important to them, hence big lazy engines which will run for years and cover vast distances without being maintained.

Lancia takes design ideas from Ford, whatever next!

No they all end up looking the same. Giant 22" chrome wheels and a 'bitchin' Foose paint job.

I think it's the lack of engineering finesse that does it for me with American cars, sure there's some exceptions to the rule, but not many. Yes there might well be a reason for it - but that's irrelevant, fact is they are what they are and they tick no boxes for me.

This is always quoted, and is something which i used to agree with as an excuse.

This was until i found out that the average US motorist does a little over 12,000 miles per year - roughly the same as over here.

With a passion. I can't think of a great car they ever made, not one. They made some iconic cars, they made some quick cars, but all have been pig iron or made from margarine pots inside...or British with an American lump.
