Im looking at doing a mini road trip for my 21st around California and I need to look at rental cars.
Preferably convertible (mustang? :D)
What does rental need to include? Ill be looking at picking up in say san fran and dropping it off in LA.
I know theres a few people on here that have done trips who may be able to offer advice.

Posted in motors because of car rental/mini road trip.

Cheers for the link!
From a couple of sites it looks like £600 for 2 weeks for a 21 year old, doesn't seem to unseasonable I guess?
What fox says on that first post is pretty much what I would like convertible for national parks etc and nice lazy engine if possible for distances.

Also anyone whos been to California, where would you recommend as part of a road trip?

I'm flying out on Friday, can't wait. Be very careful when booking as a lot of places will charge you a fee for one way rentals. I'm picking up at Lax and dropping off in Vegas and hertz etc wanted $300 one way fee. (probably high as its a different state.)

I've booked with dollar which font mention any such fee but we'll see when I pick the car up on Friday!

Most if not all of the rental companies have a locally payable young driver charge on top of the quoted rates. It adds up to quite a lot and some cars they simply won't rent to a 21 year old.

IIRC it was around $30/day for the young driver excess with Hertz LAX when i was young enough to have had to have paid it.

two years ago, I went to Florida and the cost for me to drive on top of the daily rental charge was $30 per day.

*^lol beaten to it :p

From that website I get a quote of £582 for a convertible for 2 weeks. Same quote as well for a luxury car, and the website doesn't any anything about young driver fees.

You have to select the young driver package from the drop down menu when putting the details in and then you pay nothing extra when collecting the car.

Yep that's what I've done.

I'm looking at a car in October in Florida, because i'm 24 (2 months off 25....) they want $25 EXTRA a DAY! surcharge... which they collect when you get collect the car, don't get stung!

Or you could just book the Young Driver Package via the site I linked to above and probably pay a lot less?

Im dropping off in the same state so even if there any any drop off charges they will be that high.
But then ive had a look by going through all the way to paying (but not paying yet) and nothing being added on.
So I presume nothing else will be added on? (Apart from tank of fuel I think?)

No-one seems to have answered the question about what to include in a Californian road trip, so I'll tell you everything you need to know.

Pacific Coast Highway - Route 1

That is all.

Thanks Havana I am definitely looking to do that! It looks like an epic road.

It's an amazing road, proper winding round cliffs, specatular scenery and there are some really nice stops on the way (highly recommend Carmel and Monterey - spend a night stopping over there, seafood to die for!).
