Hey guys,

I have a friend from the US that's sending me some used PC parts, I was just wondering if there was anything I should know before he sends them. i.e he is sending a PSU, I know the plugs are differently so surely it just be the wire I would need to change?

But everything else RAM, CPU etc should all be fine, yes?

Just double checking before he sends me stuff that I can't even use :p

You'll need a power adaptor and the same wire for the PSU - though in all fairness it's not something I'd really recommend.

The other internal components should work fine.

Some PSU's have a small switch on the back that allow a change from 240V to 110V and visa versa. You will need a power lead though. WOuldn't reccomeded using a travel adaptor....

Should be able to just use a standard kettle lead for the PSU, just check whether it has auto switching, or if it has a manual switch for 110v/240v. All the internal components will work fine though I'm sure.

nearly all decent psu are dual voltage. some are autp switching some have the switch. Only cheapo no name ones aren't.
It doesn't have anything to do with quality.
No PFC/passive PFC PSUs require that switch for use with different voltages, active PFC PSUs don't need any switches.

All modern PSUs have active PFC so if there's that switch PSU is probably old design, low efficiency, junk with weak 12V... but you could use it as fireworks!
On the other hand unlike in Europe US doesn't require electric appliances above certain limit to have active PFC so some decent design PSUs still lack it in US... although quality designs always have active-PFC.
