Is America's army still a free online pc game? i used to play it yonks ago! (blocked at work) and if so does anyone play it? or are there any other good free ones?

Americas Army is still going and is getting more and more funding as the american army is desperate for new recruits. It's moving to the UE 3.0 soon which will be sweet.

It's also got vehicles but I haven't had a chance to play a map with them yet only the training part. That was 4 or 5 months ago as well.

EDIT: And yes it is and always will be free.

I used to enjoy playing AA but the thing i remember about it was having to do the training when all you wanted to do was get online and kick butt.

how many hours training do you have to do?

Not that much, the level of training required depends on what you do online.

The basic infantry are just required to do an assault course, and rifle training, as far as I remember.

To do more advance stuff, such as gunner, sniper, medic, air drops, special forces etc. You will have to do the training corresponding to it.

It's a very good game, much more tactical than other games, having to place individual shots rather than spray everywhere.

Haven't played it in a while, but will start again when it's released on the Unreal 3 engine, as above.

AA is and will always be free, been playing it for a while and theres loads of servers 24/7, some are full of annoying people like most online games but most aren't, its miles better than armed assault because it actually works :) plus its going to UE3 shortly as said above

AA makes me laugh so much, you spawn and people hit the floor straight away
bit to boring for my taste!

I used to play AA a heck of a lot, ran a couple of clans through it and it was good fun.

Then i went and got myself banned from the gaming league we played on, the clan went south and we lost our ranked server and I got a new pc.

Thing was, when i got my new pc and got BF2 running i realised the only reason i started and kept playing AA was that it was free and ran on my crappy PC. By then the requirments had gotten insane and i had a job.

I havent played it since they first added the humvee and co-op levels. With my clan gone and most of the old players gone it was just a basic online fps to me, and not the best.

I think its great that it is free and all, but that means you just get a lot of cheaters, newbies and uber skilled asses in it, and not a lot of middle ground. I am tempted to download it one of these days, if only for Hosptial SE... wouldent mind a nice camping session on pipeline either come to think of it.

Played it since the early days when it only had 4 or 5 maps. Bridge was and always will be my favourite map but hospital kicked ass too. I stopped playing when vehicles came in as well. Got into Halo with flatmates then BF2 on PC. Occasionally I go back for a few games but there's not as much teamwork as there used to be in the old days.

i used to play a lot, until they brought out the viechles as well, it just made me think, well i have bf2 for viechles, so why is aa any better, well its not anymore, its just a slightly worse version, by this time i had bought cs:s so i didn't really need aa, still got it installed though :p i am tempted sometimes to be a sniper but i forget and don't bother:)
