hi

can anybody tell me if its possible to connect my hyundai w240d 24inch monitor to an amiga 500.

thanks in advance

no idea i'm afraid, just nice to see someone still using an amiga 500 :) Ninja was my fav game, music still goes round and round in my head :)

From memory didnt the A500 have its own interface (i.e. not 9 pin d-sub)

I would have thought it may be possible but no doubt expensive if a convertor is required

Commodore Amiga now that was a lovely computer. Anyone remember Dungeon Master on that machine :)

Anyway I would take a look at the wikipedia entry on the Commodore Amiga which can be found here:-

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amiga_500

It does have a section called Connectors and has some information regarding the Video Connector. At the bottom of the page there are some useful links to Amiga related sites, they might have the information that you require.

Blast from the past!

As far as I can remember you needed to use a device called a scan doubler/flicker fixer as the frequency output of the Amigia is different to that of a PC monitor.

I am not 100% sure but these may also only work on the 1200.

Also I seem to remeber that certain PC monitors in the day were MultiSync and if you had one of these you could just use a suitable cable.

Sorry I am a bit vauge the last time I used this stuff was 15 Yeays ago

thanks guys . i would like to get an amiga but there is no space under the tv for it and there are so many connections on my monitor i thought it might be possible

cheers

You need a multisync for the Amiga 500.
Hardly any new monitors will work at 15khz.

Most dont go lower than 31khz.

To cut it down into a more sizeabnle chunk... The output on the A500 is simple 15HZ RGB, so you can for example use a SCART adapter, but as far as current VGA screens, no, they are Multisync, but they dont go that low Im afraid.

As suggested, you could opt for a scan doubler as this would get the range up to 30 and that should allow a VGA screen to display the pic, but apart from that, its not likely to work no.

Im in a similar boat with my old Atari ST, however, I use a Mono Screen with that so at this time, its not a problem, and my Falcon and TTs use standard VGA Screens. ( Thankfully )

Even at the time Amigas were sold new only one make went low enough (Microvitec, although Amiga rebadged them)/

If you really want to connect you Amiga to a VGA monitor there are adaptors out there designed for connected games consoles to VGA monitors (I assume they double the scan rate). One of these might do the trick. Another option is if you only want to use workbench is to buy an A1200, I think they didn't support modes with a faster refrest (however not in games).

But the emulator is a better idea, it'll also give you the flexibility to run games that needed the extra power of the A1200.
