Hi

I've got an Amiga CD32 with a TF328, it's in a box in my loft and at some point i'm going to start using it again. An office i'm working in is about to throw out two Sony CRT monitors:

CPD-E100P
CPD-G520

A quick google suggests these won't work on an Amiga, due to not going down to 15kHz. I've also had a quick google on scan doublers and they dont seem to be in stock, produced anymore? or reasonably priced.

Would I be better off just trying to find a good quality CRT TV?

Help and advice greatfully received.

Thank you.

Other option is to find a 15Khz LCD. http://15khz.wikidot.com/

I've got two arriving this week, an NEC and a BenQ. I'll probably be selling one or the other and I got both at a reasonable price so you can have one if you're interested.
My use is WinUAE but 50Hz / 15Khz mode is so much better.
My current LCD does 50Hz but not quite (shows 50Hz, but desktop resolution 640 x 480, active signal resolution 800 x 600) Id rather have one on the list I know works

A gbs8200 modded with gbs-control would be a cheap option, does vga out.

An Ossc would be superb too but a bit more expensive. You’d need an hdmi to vga converter though

No because most TV's and indeed PC monitors are designed purely for PC specification which work at upwards of 31Khz Horizontal sync (hence the need of a scan doubler to double the 15.xxxKhz signal into the 31Khz signal range)
Depends - Most older TVs are 50Hz capable. Upto around 2012 I expect. After that they tend to be 60Hz+ for 'smooth motion' and whatever else marketing terms are used.
Sure, great for sports and modern gaming but if you play a game designed for 50Hz / 15Khz then scrolling will be jittery as hell.

A couple of quick test games I use are Slam Tilt and CarVup.
Anything other than 50Hz, both will play horrible, in a way that's similar to early VR on the Oculus DK1 / DK2 where it makes you feel sick after 5 minutes

For now I would just get any old CRT TV and see how much use you actually get out of the Amiga before splashing out on a good quality CRT TV, the prices are currently going through the roof! B&O are great TVs and were very expensive back in the day and can still be had pretty cheap if there are any in your area.

I would definitely take the CPD-G520 and stick that in your loft if you have no current plans for it, it's a great monitor! And I would stick the other on eBay and put the funds towards a CRT TV ;)
