It’s been confirmed! Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs is the title of the upcoming survival horror game from Frictional Games and thechineseroom of Dear Esther fame.
The fine folk over at Joystiq managed to track down Frictional Games designer Thomas Grip and thechineseroom‘s Dan Pinchbeck and use effective interrogation techniques to get them to talk about Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs. We were suspicious before of thechineseroom’s input and now it has been revealed that they are to be the developers while Frictional Games act as producer.
“It’s not a direct sequel, in terms of it doesn’t follow on from the story of Amnesia. It doesn’t involve the same characters,” Dan Pinchbeck told Joystiq. Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs will be set in the same “alternate history and set in the same universe” apparently. You can hear the slap of thousands of survival horror fans high five-ing all across the globe.

The first details come in although we can expect a lot more from Joystiq as they have a much lengthier interview with the two fellows going up on the site a little later. There’s a few more images for you look at over there as well!
Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs is set in 1899 and follows the “wealthy industrialist” Oswald Mandus, who has returned home from “a disastrous expedition to Mexico, which has ended in tragedy.” Struck by a destructive fever, Mandus is haunted by dreams of a dark machine until he mysteriously regains consciousness. Months have passed unbeknownst to the industry tycoon and emerging from his slumber the roaring engine of a mysterious machine sputters to life.

More information on Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs will probably turn up on the official website in the near future. We do know that Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs will be released on PC in Fall 2012.

Oooh interesting. I've briefly played Amneisa: The Dark Descent but will revisit it when I update my sound card/headphones.

Can't wait to see what this newer game has to offer.

Amnesia: The Dark Descent was by far the best horror game ever made and as far as my opinion goes, one of the best horror forms of media ever. If they can recreate that..

This type of games are excellent, well worth they money. Payed 4,99€ for Amnesia at Steam lol....you just can't ignore such low price. Even if you can pirate it.

Big fan of the Penumbra series and Amnesia: The Dark Descent. Definitely getting this on day 1 and playing it that night

I would be playing if Steam hasn't decided to perform maintenance all bloody day. Brilliant timing choice, release of a popular new game, well ****ing done whoever thought THAT was a good idea.

To be honest the thing I've been most looking forward to is more music from Jessica Curry, she has made easily the most atmospheric, beautiful and eerie music I have ever heard.

Played it and completed. I didnt think it was very good.

The dark descent I didnt get very far because it was too scary.

This I didnt find that scary, only in certain moments. It seemed predictable when things would happen. The monsters were not scary. The puzzles... there werent any puzzles. The story was nonsensical.
