i started and finished this in 1 sitting (stopping for a cuppa 2/3 times)
its a hard one to describe and recommend. dont go into this expecting it to be like a dark descent, it shares similarities but i think this one has more of an emphasis on telling a story and really setting an atmosphere rather that tricky puzzles and jump scares like dark descent. for example dark descent has you filling an inventory to solve puzzles and help keep areas lit whereas this has NO inventory and your lamp is unlimited which sort of breaks the tension dark descent had, but i dont think thats what they were going for.
the music by jessica curry and sound etc really make it work too, some elements feel like dear esther in terms of eerie music and some voice over however there is a lot of reading IMO, not a problem for me but some dislike the whole reading logs to develop story etc
i would say if you liked dear esther and dark descent this is worth your time, not for for scares but to see what another dev can bring to an existing franchise. The setting really is creepy and kept me going as i didnt realise 4 hours had passed, not a bad sign for me.
run time for me was 4hours 10 mins so a bit shorter too.
i this Outlast sounds scarier than this one so may try that next but not yet
