Amount of memory - does it affect boot up from standby / sleep / hibernation?

Hi All,

For my car PC i want the fastest boot up times as possible, so the computer goes into hibernation I think it is (when it boots up it says resuming windows with a white bar)

Now it will be running minimum services and software.

The question is, will it take longer to boot up with 256mb ram, than it would with 512mb, and 512 - 1gb?

Thanks

Hibernation copies the contents of the RAM to the HDD, so if you have more RAM hibernation can take longer. That said, whether 256MB of RAM might be sacrificing performance a bit too much, so you'd be best with 512 or 1GB. If you have the chance, best thing to do is try a variety of configs and see what works best.

I wouldn't hibernate it, just stick in to low power mode, in which case it doesn't matter how much RAM you have. It'll also be much faster to resume the session than hibernation.

I use Standby all the time on my CarPC.

Unless you don't drive the car for more than about 3-4 days, then you're not going to come out to find a flat battery! ;)

Also, my advice is plenty of memory, and don't disable loads of services, you'll only cause yourself problems later!
