Hello,

I currently have an old but well looked after Wharfedale S-991 system. ( was around £500 a few years ago  )

It has been sat in the spare room in its original box for the last 2 years.

Im looking to sell it as i no longer require the Tuner or Tape deck plus its a little big once its all set up.

Im after advice on a cheap but decent Cd player, Amp and Speaker set up..

Im on a budget so im only looking to spend around £150..

any help is appreciated..

thanks in advance..

£150 is quite a small budget, if i were you i would look at second hand stuff ,something like a marantz cd + amp and some mission bookshelf speakers.

Thats a really tight budget if your after seperates -

Check out the Cambridge Audio A1 Amp, Gale 3010 Bookshelf Speakers and the Acoustic Solutions SP125 CD Player.

Might be a tenner or so over, the Amp and speakers are sweet as a nut, you might want to upgrade the CD player later though.

Lofz

Thanks for that,

i know £150 is a small budget, i should have said i was looking at the likes of ebay etc.

tbh i only know the big brand names, I wouldnt know the difference between cambridge audio and Eltax ( in terms of quality).

Ive seen a few good items on ebay, just dont know which cheap makes to trust in terms of quality etc.

and in fairness, i know the £150 is goin to turn into £200!!! lol

Cambridge audio will sound a lot better than eltax, when I done my system I considered them also - my budget was £500 though,

I went for the cambrige audio A5
Gale 4040's
Project Debut 3 (I don't do CD's)
Decent Cables cost a bit

For cd players and amps look for marantz, nad, rotel, cambridge audio.
For speakers look for mission, tannoy, kef. Eltax are very good also and dirt cheap i owned a pair of liberty 3+ and they were excellent speakers.
If you see anything on the bay that you like post what it is on here and i will tell you if its any good or not.
