Hi guys, whilst watching lord of the rings the other night I heard a loud pop and my amp died. It'll turn on with no lcd display or sound then it turns itself off! :(

It was the JVC RX-ES1SL, which powered the JVC SP-F303 and JVC SP-DW103 sub.

Speakers:

100w @ 8 ohms (can't seem to find much info on them)

Sub:

Basically what would you guys suggest as a replacement amp? I don't want to spend much at all. Fed up of spending a lot of equipment and it failing 3-4 years down the line. I'm running a stereo amp that's over 20 years old now :p So basically as cheap as possible please! Thanks in advance!

JVC RX5062 (Silver) - £99 approx

I can't comment on the Sony or JVC but the Denon is a cracking amp for the money

Yeah i want that Denon, will try and find the 1705/06 second hand first but might just HAVE to buy new :p
Bit over my budget new but then i guess it is something i will be keeping for many years.

I am also looking at the Yamaha RX-V359 or 459(has DAB).

take a look at some second hand yamaha amps, a DSP-AX620 can usually be had for £75 mark which I have as spare amp currently and its a cracking amp, plenty of inputs/outputs and has decent sound and power, they retailed at £400 ish new and are basically the older version of the current 757SE

Thanks a lot guys. Will have a look into the Denon amp! So annoying having the sub etc.. without a damn amp!! Does it matter that the amp is powered?

620's should go for less than that, really. My mate picked one up off the 'bay for £45 or so. also, as far as the 757se goes, they are its great, great, great grandfather. or something. The 650 is in the same generation as the 757 i believe, which is the replaced the 640, which replaced my 630, which replaced the 620:)

Damn, you beat me to it :(

Mine's about 5 1/2 years old and has never ever skipped a beat. It's on for at least 10 hours every day, and can take a proper thrashing.

I've had it running at sub -20dB for hours and hours quite a few times.

I've used it with quite a few speakers, Mission 700's, Mission 702e's, Eltax Silverstone 200's and currently B&W 601 S3's.

For what I'm used to, I think it sounds damn good! Of course, it's musicality is known not to be the best, but I can't complain. The depth of sound with the B&W's is breathtaking.

And to think, I paid £150 it when it was actually still selling for £400... good old display models

ethos, where abouts are you? I'm in Manchester. If you wanted it, I could pick it up and sort something out for delivery :)

edit... Ahh, just seen cornwall. If it's all boxed up properly, I reckon it'd cost about £20 to courier.

That's very kind!!! I'll keep an eye on the item, it has 8 days left on it at the moment. If it goes for a decent price i'll pay you for your troubles!! :)

£13 via parcel to go, and they collect from your house ;)

630/640 don't seem to come up on auction as often as the 620, obviously if you can source one of the newer models and can afford it then go for it.

and £45 is a stunning price for one, I've watched them quite often when I've toyed with idea of selling mine and they usually go for anywhere between £60-£90 + delivery.
