Been looking on a well known auction site for an amp to power 2 10" subs, need something that will do 4ohm with a fair whack of power. I will be taking a feed from my Yamaha AV-Receiver, using the sub output and splitting it using a Y splitter to connect into the below amp in question.

Now onto the question:

The sub output from the Yam is 20-120hz. The amp that will be powering the subs is 20hz-25khz, is it okay to go ahead without using a crossover and connect the subs straight to the amp as it will only be receiving 20-120hz

PA Amplifier "IMPACT-1000"
Art Nr: AW1583048

1600 watts power!
High-performance-amplifier with a 19'' rack/case
High power, authentic sound and a persuasive design!
The 19'' dimension allows it to be installed as easy as winking.

power 2x 800 watts max. at 4 Ohm
• power 2x 356 watts RMS 4 Ohm
• split controller for volume left/right
• two level meter for the left and right canal with 8 blue and super-bright LEDs
• front-sided on/off-button + power-LED
• input over cinch/RCA or 6,3mm jack
• speaker- connection optionally through XLR, screw-terminal or Speacon/PA-plug
• frequency range 20Hz-25kHz
signal-to-noise ratio 80dB(decibel)
• distortion factor <0,3%
• safety switch (short-circuit-resistant)

Honestly you can't get a 1600W power amplifier for £140 that's any good.

You also don't want that as part of your AV setup - it's fan cooled.

i use a 2nd hand 2x100w denon to power mine (well, actually just the single 12" now). good for 110db, what more do you need lol

£35 for the win

i want to buy a decent amp panel for it, but i just keep saying no, stuff that i cant justify the price lol

not really after SQ, just want loud dirty bass

subs are

http://www.caraudiocentre.co.uk/product_m-pioneer-ts-w256c_p-20819.htm

they are rated 800w but they are 350 rms

they will be in a slot ported box tuned to about 33hz

EDIT, i dont have an AV setup, just using the Yam to power my book shelf speakers and output to my sub thats currently running off a JBL GTO 75.2 car amp ~300wrms

just jam a pencil into each ear hole until you make them bleed, will save you all the hastle of building this setup.

thanks for the informative post there mark m. really, i dont know why people like you post on these forums.

whats wrong with the car amp, its powered up, its powering my sub, my sub makes noise, what more can i ask for other than a more powerful amp that will power two subs? well really its not the amps fault its my psu, it cant handle the load when the bass drops low at loud volumes.

thank god you dont get this in the pc harware sections on here, i dont know why i asked in here in the first place. can a mod close and delete this please.

thanks

who is too busy laughing?

not really wanting to achieve a high spl or anything, just want loud dirty bass. not really going to get a high spl on music anyway if the box is tuned to 33, tuned higher and playing sweeps and sines then maybe

you should research this a lot more. im not trying to be arrogant but you dont seem to know much about this. put it this way, its perfectly possible to achieve 110db from 30hz-80hz or so using a 100w rms amp and a single 12" ported subwoofer. i know this because mine achieves that. if you dont know how loud 110db is, id suggest buying an spl meter or something and playing around with it. becuase you need nothing like 1kw of power to do that.

im not a audio expert and dont claim to be, thanks for the advice james, much better than the rest of the comments on here.

120db from where though, sitting position or at 1ft infront of the driver?

i got an spl meter from my dads work and my overall setup peaked at 116 from the sitting position, albeit the book shelf speakers where about 2.5ft away from the meter (and the sub under the desk), which is sitting position.

100wrms can and will get high a spl, i dont doubt that.

the amp in question will do 356wrms per ch @ 4ohm minus whatever for its cheapness. it will be plenty to drive the subs and there will be headroom to keep the gains down to prevent clipping.

too little power is just as bad as too much. the output of the amp is well suited to the drivers IMO.

ported will always be louder than sealed and requries less power to acheive a higher db
