Hi all
I have a pair of sennheisers hd 457 (thinking about making an upgrade to the HD 595's but thats another topic)connected into my XFi. One thing I have never liked about using headphones is the only way to adjust volume is through the OS.

So i got talking to a friend who was very helpful and knows a lot more about audio equipment than I do. He suggested a headphone amp. He did say he didnt know everything about audio equipment but he did suggest to get this:
http://www.behringer.com/MA400/index.cfm?lang=eng
or this:
http://www.behringer.com/AMP800/index.cfm?lang=eng
However upon closer inspection of both of the devices he said that they would not work. He then had to goto work so i continued googling on my own to see what I could find.

I found this forum post:
http://www.soundonsound.com/forum/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=468940&page=&view=&sb=5&o=
On post 2 stevie j suggests using the amp800 to "putting your soundcard out into it and your monitors through the link and your headphones through the amp", which contradicts what my friend said about it not having the correct connectors for use on a pc soundcard.

What do you guys think? As I said i know very little about audio equipment and any help would be most welcome. I realise i could have asked on that thread itself but I had to post this quickly as i'm about to go out.

I've got one of these plugged into the back of my X-fi fatality, very happy with it.

Just a few popular ones to look into,

Musical Fidelity X-Can V3,

looking for something cheaper then you can get the older v2 quite cheap off the bay now,
