I have started to build out a gaming section for my retro stuff, a work in progress. It's neither flash or high end, but I do have the need to plug many devices into 1 source and then route that to a TV and some speakers. I am perhaps looking at something older here as ideally I would like something that can take HDMI, SCART, SVIDEO, Digital and Composite inputs in volume, then fire them out maybe via HDMI, SCART and SVIDEO into my Framemeister, whilst transferring the sound to a pair of speakers too!

So, what can I do, am I on a road to nowhere? Budget is what it needs to be but cheaper the better and perfectly happy to go old school (read 2nd hand) if needs be.

That's the sort of thing, but is that going to cost me 2K or something as frankly, even with my flash socks, is a lot of money to make a NES sound good :D

For what you need the older AV receivers that included HDMI as well as Component / S-Video / composite video and a whole raft of goodies with video cross-conversion (format to format) as well as up-conversion (SD to HD) would be right up your street. As others have said, AV receivers don't have SCART sockets - they just take up too much room for a start - but with adapters and converters it's possible to handle SCART's version of composite video and even RGBs converted to Component.

I've got a Yamaha RX-V1800 sitting in a box unused at the moment. This ex-£1000 receiver is hugely powerful (130W) which means it can handle pretty much any speakers you throw at it. You could have lots of fun with some big inexpensive floorstanders :D Middlewich......Staffordshire......Middlewich......Staffordshire.....Hmm ;)
How much you want?
