As everyone else seems to have their own thread I thought I'd start my own as well...

First off two images from earlier this year from Hong Kong and Australia. These go with the Australia thread I did about 6 months ago but weren't processed at the time.

We went to Serbia in August... Here are a few scenes from there.

Out West

After Belgrade we headed west towards Tara National Park. While Belgrade is a modern western city and much of the rest of the countryside (in the west at least) is quite prosperous there are still a lot of traditional farming techniques (and some REALLY bad roads - in fact the worst was just outside the Airport).

I recently watched a youtube video on selective White Balance so had a bit of a play with a few of these below.

Built in the 60s this house is one of the most famous spots in Serbia, made more famous by a 2012 photo on the National Geographic website. Autumn/winter with the raised water levels is probably the best time to see it.

Nice. #7 and #4 are my favourites.

I've been to Croatia loads of times but only made to Serbia once and was promptly put on the next train out (Brits and Americans were bombing them at the time).

Serbia is definitely worth a visit again englishpremier. It's very different to what I expected, far more prosperous and "western". It's kind of a mix of eastern Europe and the German Alps, at least where we went.

Interesting you said 4, I wasn't too sure about that one, however 7 is my favourite, i'm very pleased with it.:)

I watched a tutorial about "painting" with white balance, which I've since lost unfortunately. Essentially in Lightroom you adjust the tint and tone when using the gradient and brush tools, like you would with exposure. It not only allows you to make photos seem warm or cold without ruining the white balance of, say, a person in the foreground, but apparently also helps give greater depth to the image. Both 5 and 7 are examples of that.

Since I watched the video I realise it's used everywhere! Especially in travel magazines like Lonely Planet and National Geographic explorer.

EDIT: Found it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ILtZTagcN-0 - Worth a look.

A few shots from Scotland now. We hired a cottage with a couple of friends in Lochinver, far north west Scotland at the beginning of September.

First a photo from Ullapool, just to the south.

6. I wanted to try something a little different here, photos of streams always seem to point upstream, so I went downstream...

C&C always appreciated.:)

Thanks for the link.

What I never get with Serge Ramell is why does he always turn the highlights all the way down and shadows all the way up? Just seems odd. Same with his sharpening.

I have to say I've not looked at any of his other videos, however I did just notice he has a lot more so will start working my way through them.

Right, the second set from Scotland

These are mostly from a walk to the top of Silven, the large bump you can see in the background in photos 2 and 5 in the last set. 0-700m almost straight up is fun, it's not somewhere for vertigo.

It really is a stunning location, especially in the late afternoon. Great seafood restaurant as well.
